Abstract
Summary This note on international protection, covering the period from June 2024 to May 2025, emphasizes the critical need for enhanced international cooperation on a larger and more globally-balanced scale to address unprecedented levels of displacement and international protection needs in a context of sharply reduced financial resources that are insufficient to adequately respond. It highlights the importance of fair and efficient asylum systems, the inclusion of displaced and stateless persons in national frameworks and strengthened protection for people in vulnerable situations. Additionally, it underscores the imperative of increasing opportunities for durable solutions – including voluntary repatriation, local integration, resettlement and other legal pathways to protection. To uphold the principle of burden- and responsibility-sharing and to strengthen the international protection framework, the note calls for sustained political and financial support from the international community. This support is indispensable for enabling UNHCR to fulfil its mandate and respond effectively to the global displacement and statelessness challenges.
