Abstract
The first hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship attracted major international attention, resulted in three deaths, and likely involved person-to-person transmission. In collaboration with the ship’s crew and public health experts, the World Health Organization led a coordinated international response to ensure the safe disembarkation of passengers and support governments and healthcare providers in 23 countries managing the return and care of their nationals.
