Abstract
This study investigates the dynamic interplay of tradition and modernity in Urdu poetry from the 19th century to the present. By analysing selected works from classical ghazal to postmodern free verse, the research explores how poets negotiate socio-cultural continuity and innovation. Using qualitative textual analysis and historical contextualization, the paper argues that Urdu poetry remains a vibrant medium where tradition and modernity coexist, leading to novel aesthetic expressions. The findings reveal that while classical forms provide structural roots, modern themes reflect changing societal realities and individual subjectivitie
