Abstract
This study explores the crucial role of Maqasid al-Shariah (objectives of Islamic law) in promoting justice (adl) and ensuring public welfare (maslahah) within contemporary socio-legal frameworks. The Maqasid, as conceptualized by classical scholars like Al-Ghazali and Al-Shatibi, serve as a dynamic foundation for interpreting Islamic law beyond textual literalism. This paper examines the evolution of Maqasid al-Shariah from a theoretical construct to a practical framework for governance, human rights, and ethical legislation. The study also highlights how these objectives facilitate a balance between individual rights and collective welfare, emphasizing the preservation of religion, life, intellect, lineage, and property. By integrating traditional jurisprudence with modern challenges such as human development, justice reform, and social equity, this article asserts that Maqasid al-Shariah offers a viable paradigm for holistic societal progress.
