Abstract
Sir Syed Ahmed Khan is one of the great personalities in the British era of the Indian subcontinent. Whose services to the Muslims of India in religious, social, political and educational fields can never be denied? Sir Syed gave a satisfactory answer to the slanderous attacks of the missionaries and priests and it was said by the youth of the subcontinent that if Syed's writings had not passed through our eyes, we would have deviated from Islam. These were the effects of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan's writings and speeches which forced him to write a commentary to answer the objections of the missionaries and priests and on the other hand the faith in Islamic beliefs and fundamentals of Islam of modern educated class and the general Muslim public can be restored. In this regard, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan called the Previous Heavenly Books as a source of Tafsīr ul Qur’ān and tried to defend the objections against the Qur’ān, Islam and Muslims by deriving and reasoning from the Previous Heavenly Books and gave satisfactory answers. On the one hand, he answered twenty objections such as Qur’ānic articles and distortion of the Qur’ān; on the other hand, he demolished the basics of the Previous Heavenly Books while strengthening the fundamentals of Islam. If we look at Sir Syed Ahmad Khan's interpretation of the Qur’ān through the means of derivation and reasoning from the Previous Heavenly Books, it is found that he tried very hard to reduce the conflicting views of Christians and Muslims and tried to give a chance to bring them closer and understand each other. He made sure that the doubts of Muslims should be removed the correct dimension of Islam should be clarified for the Christian evangelists, leaders and pastors.
