Abstract
Education is the cornerstone of civilization and the most powerful instrument for moral, intellectual and social transformation. In Islam, education is viewed as a sacred duty that connects human knowledge to divine wisdom. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) formed a universal educational philosophy that combined faith with reason, theory with practice, and individual development with collective welfare. His (PBUH) vision of education aimed not only to transmit knowledge but to cultivate character, discipline, reflection, and service to humanity. Pakistan, founded in the name of Islam, was envisioned as a state that would translate these Prophetic ideals into its educational and social systems. However, over time, a dual educational structure emerged: the religious system (Madrasahs) focusing mainly on theological knowledge, and the modern secular system emphasizing worldly sciences but largely disconnected from moral and spiritual values. This duality has led to a serious intellectual and ethical divide in Pakistani society, weakening national unity and the integration of knowledge. This paper explores the educational philosophy of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as a holistic model of learning that harmonizes spiritual, moral, and intellectual dimensions. It critically examines how Pakistan’s dual educational system deviates from this ideal and discusses its social and ideological consequences. Finally, it proposes a framework for educational reform that aligns with the prophetic model-one that unites moral excellence, scientific inquiry, and civic responsibility to build an integrated and value based education system for Pakistan.
