Abstract
This study was conducted in the Ido-Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State to investigate ascertain the influence of the teacher-student interaction on the performance of secondary school students in the subject of chemistry. The study looks into the relationship between teachers and students and to what extent their relationship influences academic performance of chemistry students in the Ido-Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State. It also sought to identify the reasons behind unhealthy relationships between teachers and students as well as ways to foster friendly relationships in the classroom. The study employs a survey Decriptive Research Design. All Senior Senior School Chemistry students and teachers in Ido-osi made up the study's population. For the study, sample random sampling procedure was employed to choose one hundred respondents. The questionnaire that was used to collect the data for this study has a reliability coefficient of 0.82 after its reliability was determined using the test-retest method. The results showed that some teachers in majority of the secondary schools owned by the government were not very friendly with their students; they even beat them up for minor infractions, particularly when the students raised questions during lessons in the class. The study reveals a pleasant relationship between teachers and students improves academic achievement because it makes the class more engaging when the teacher is approachable, humorous, and caring. It is suggested that educators should strive to exhibit patience towards their students during class, and give them praise when they demonstrate improved performance.
