Abstract
This study examines the impact of teacher quality on students' academic achievement in public secondary schools in FCT Abuja. It explores how teachers' educational qualifications and years of experience influence student performance amidst challenges such as inadequate resources and large class sizes. Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from 200 teachers and 500 students through structured questionnaires and standardized tests. The findings indicate that both teachers' qualifications and years of experience significantly enhance students' academic outcomes. Chi-square and Pearson’s correlation analysis revealed that teachers' educational qualifications and years of experience positively influence student achievement. The study recommends prioritizing the recruitment of qualified teachers, offering financial incentives for further education, and enhancing practical training in teacher preparation programs. These measures aim to address gaps in teacher quality, which is crucial for achieving better academic outcomes and sustainable development in the education sector.
