Abstract
AbstractThis study examined the influence of frequency and quality of e-library usage on the academic performance of senior secondary school chemistry students in Ilorin Metropolis, Kwara State. A descriptive survey design was adopted, with a sample of 120 students drawn from six public and private secondary schools using a stratified and random sampling technique. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire, validated by experts, and tested for reliability with a Cronbach Alpha coefficient of 0.78. Descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation) were employed to analyze the research questions. Findings revealed that students strongly perceived e-libraries as beneficial to chemistry learning. They agreed that e-libraries save time, preserve materials, enable simultaneous access, provide quick retrieval of information, and make learning more efficient and enjoyable. However, significant challenges hindered effective utilization, including inadequate funding, shortage of skilled personnel, epileptic power supply, and poor internet connectivity. The results highlight a paradox: while e-libraries hold great potential to improve students’ performance and interest in chemistry, systemic barriers limit their full impact.
