Abstract
This study investigated the relationship between principals’ communication and problem-solving skills, teachers’ job performance, and students’ academic achievement in public secondary schools across the North Central States of Nigeria. Specifically, it examined how principals’ interpersonal competencies influence teachers’ effectiveness and, in turn, impact student outcomes. Two research questions and two null hypotheses were formulated and tested at a 0.05 significance level. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design, targeting a population of 2,389 principals and 26,661 teachers from public secondary schools within the region. A structured instrument was developed, validated by experts with a content validity index of 0.78, and yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.75. The findings are expected to provide empirical evidence on how principals’ leadership qualities—particularly in communication and problem-solving—affect the performance of teachers and the academic success of students.
