Abstract
This paper examines Conceptual Exploration of Stress, Coping Mechanisms, and the Mediating Role of Health Education among Secondary School Students in Nigeria. Stressors affecting students in Nigeria and explores coping strategies facilitated through health education. Coping is an assessment process designed to respond to external and internal challenges. Coping strategies are efforts to regulate emotions, behaviours, cognitions and environmental aspects in response to the stress of everyday events. Each situation requires the use of a specific coping strategy. There are many healthy ways to reduce stress or cope with its effects, but they all require change. Unhealthy ways of dealing with stress should be avoided. Comprehensive health education strategies for coping with academic stress can help students obtain the greatest benefits from education and become healthy and productive adults. The review highlights the role of health education in equipping students with effective coping mechanisms such as mindfulness, time management, and emotional regulation. Teachers and parents are in a unique position to influence young people’s physical, mental, and social well-being. The paper therefore suggests among others that schools should integrate comprehensive health education curricula that focus on stress management techniques, emotional regulation, and mindfulness practices. This curriculum should be tailored to address the specific needs of secondary school students and include interactive components that engage students in learning.
