Abstract
The study examined the effectiveness of Cognitive Restructuring Counselling Technique (CRCT) in reducing Test Anxiety Among Students of Federal College of Education, Gidan Madi, Sokoto State, Nigeria. Two research objectives, questions, and hypotheses were raised to guide the study. A quasi-experimental design involving factorial pre-test, post-test, and control group was used. The target population of the study was 318 NCE II students, of which 221 were male and 97 were female. The subjects were identified after scoring of the pretest, which was administered to NCE II students.  The purposive sampling technique was used to select students identified with test anxiety. Forty (40) students were identified with test anxiety among NCE II students. Participants received Cognitive Restructuring Counselling Technique (CRCT) for a period of six weeks. The Test Anxiety Inventory (TAI) was adapted from Galle, Atiku, and Bala (2020). Construct validity was ensured by three experts. and a reliability index of 0.88 was obtained.  The data collected was analyzed using inferential statistics methods, which include the t-test, Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). The findings of the study revealed that CRCT is effective in reducing test anxiety among NCE II students with a mean difference of 26.05 and (t (19) = 10.49; p< .000. However, it also shows significant difference in the effectiveness of the CRCT in reducing Test Anxiety among male and female Students with F-calculated value F (1, 17) = 5.484 and P = 0.035. The study concluded that CRCT is effective in reducing test anxiety. It was recommended, among others, that professional counsellors and lecturers should adopt CRCT to treat test anxiety among students.
