Abstract
The study investigates an Appraisal of Teachers` Implementation of Continuous Assessment in senior secondary schools in Ondo state, Nigeria. The study adopted expo-facto research design because the study is descriptive research. This design was chosen because it is not always possible to select, control and manipulate the factors necessary for the study. The population for this study consisted of all the teachers in the public senior secondary schools in Ondo state using multistage sampling procedure. One instrument was developed by the researcher and used for data collection in this study. The instrument used for the study was a set of questionnaire tagged “Influence of Teachers` Implementation of Continuous Assessment” (ITICA). The research instrument was validated by five (5) experts in science education and measurement and evaluation. The face and content validity of the instruments was done by the experts. The research question was analysed using means and standard deviation while the research hypotheses using t-test and Chi square at 0.05level of significance. The result from the findings revealed the influence of continuous assessment in the teaching of any subject in secondary schools with the view to improve students’ academic performances as well as motivates them to effectively learn any subject. Based on the findings, the following recommendations are made: The government should frequently organize workshops, seminars and conferences for serving teachers on the practice of continuous assessment in secondary schools, and Institutions of higher learning should make continuous assessment a major course in their pre-service teachers training pragramme.
