Abstract
This dissertation aims to conceptualize and introduce a psycho-spiritual accompaniment program of formands to the formation ministry of the Congregation of the Lovers of the Holy Cross of Go Vap. The study is necessitated by the general situation of Vietnam, as well as by the current exigencies of the Congregation. For there is an urgent need to update and enhance the overall formation program of the Congregation by introducing an up-to-date blueprint for the formation of formands, which is based on the principles of psychology and spirituality and is responsive to the challenges of the present generation of formands. At present, the overall thrust of the formation ministry of the Congregation does not fully give proper consideration to the sphere of human development which falls within the remit of human psychology and spiritual direction. There is, therefore, a lacuna in the current formation structure of the Congregation. This research which employs the method of case study aims to fill that gap by formulating a psycho-spiritual accompaniment program. Face-to-face interviews with ten (10) selected members of the Congregation, in both temporary and perpetual vows, are conducted. The results of the interviews form the material basis of the blueprint of the psycho-spiritual accompaniment program. This study employs the 4Fold Path Model (Speyer & Yaphe, 2021) as its theoretical framework and the Logic Model (W. K. Kellogg Foundation, 2004) as its practical instrument. The former is used to formulate the prospective blueprint of formation; the latter is utilized to accomplish in concrete terms such a program. In formulating the program of psycho-spiritual accompaniment, the researcher uses pertinent Catholic Church documents on religious formation—as well as papal exhortations, encyclicals, and post-synodal documents; the scholarly works of theologians and spiritual masters of the Church; the writings of the Founder, Bishop Pierre Lambert de la Motte; and the Constitution of the C-LHC-GV. The conceptual framework of the research consists in the interaction between the Church’s teachings and the psycho-spiritual accompaniment context of the Congregation. It is important to hold in mind that the proposed blueprint of formation does not start in a vacuum. It is built on the long tradition of formation ministry of the Congregation, its vision, its spirituality, and its charism. However, it incorporates something dynamically new into the present formation structure. Overall, the main concern of this dissertation is to help improve and enrich the formation ministry of the Congregation, with a vision
