Mothers’ practices in child nutrition in selected barangays in Candelaria, Quezon Province: Relationship with socioecological factors and maternal self- efficacy

This study explores the relationship between the socioecological factors, mothers’ child nutrition practices, and maternal self-efficacy in selected barangays of Candelaria, Quezon Province. Using a quantitative, descriptive–correlational design, data were collected from 101 mothers through a standardized questionnaire. Findings show that educational attainment and household income significantly influence maternal engagement in child nutrition. Positive community attitudes toward nutritional health and the community health system factors were linked to higher participation in nutrition programs, which in turn strengthened maternal self-efficacy. Mothers involved in nutrition education and dietary supplementation programs demonstrated greater self-esteem and a stronger ability to apply effective parenting routines. Results underscore the importance of integrating community support and health services to enhance maternal capacity and improve child nutrition outcomes. These findings offer valuable insights for designing targeted interventions aimed at addressing child malnutrition in rural settings.
