Abstract
The study examined the family’s experiences in the transition of children with autism to early adolescence and how the family developed resilience over time. The core of the study focuses on establishing the experiences of the members of the family that shaped their family belief systems, organizational processes and communication patterns. Four diverse families, each with members who interact daily with an individual with autism, participated in group interviews. The study demonstrated that resilience was built through the interplay of each family member’s experiences through the process of adaptation and adjustment. This includes the overarching interconnectedness they form with each other and their ability to cope with adversity and bounce back from challenges.
