Abstract
Correlation of well injectivity and productivity in the current resource area of Maibarara geothermal production field was established. Current data from selected wells were used to obtain the relationship that well injectivity in Maibarara is six times the productivity. Data were already available from selected wells except for MB-15D and MB-16RD because their drilling campaign was ongoing during the course of this study. Completion and discharge tests were conducted to supply the necessary data for MB-15D and MB-16RD. Saphir™ was used for well test analysis of MB-15D while WellSim™ was used in wellbore modeling and simulation of the selected wells. The current resource area was divided into four sectors. It was determined that the production area, consisting of sectors A and B, has average to excellent permeability and moderate to high productivity. The reinjection area, consisting of sectors C and D, has very poor to poor permeability and low productivity. Wide range of injectivity was inferred in the production area but the reinjection area was found to have low injectivity. Exploration of additional reinjection area away from the current production and reinjection areas was recommended to move out of the poor permeability sectors. Production potential of a successful well in the current resource area was forecasted using Monte Carlo simulation. It was found out that Maibarara may have an output of around 2 – 16 MWe per well with a conservative estimate (P50) of approximately 5 MWe per well. It was recommended to drill future production wells towards the direction of the current production area. However, reservoir response to exploitation was not covered. Reservoir modeling is prudent in the future to continue and enhance the results of this study. Continuous monitoring and more frequent gathering of reservoir and well parameters would be helpful to address uncertainties and limited availability of data.
