Abstract
Purpose ─ The study identified drivers of sustainable entrepreneurial intention (SuEI) among undergraduate business students in the Philippines, examined whether SuEI would translate to sustainable entrepreneurial behavior (SuEB), and uncovered whether the length of time between measuring intention and behavior matters. Design/methodology/approach ─ The study sampled penultimate and graduating undergraduate business students. Data collection used quantitative (online surveys) and qualitative (online interviews) components. The study was split into two separate studies with two time periods each. Findings ─ PED was the common driver of SuEI for both studies. ATSE and PEF were also shown to drive SuEI, but to a weaker extent. After eight weeks and one year, SuEI did not translate to SuEB; PEF was shown to be a stronger predictor of SuEB. It was inconclusive whether time played a role in translating SuEI into SuEB. Research limitations/implications ─ This study provided novel insights about the drivers of SuEI and its translation into SuEB in the Philippine context. The study was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic so data collection was purely online. Practical and social implications ─ Sustainable entrepreneurship emphasizes the importance of including social and environmental considerations when pursuing economic ends; it also entails protecting the well-being of future generations This study can help educational institutions enhance SuEI and SuEB levels of undergraduate business students. Furthermore, this study contributes to entrepreneurial intention and behavior literature during a pandemic. Originality/value ─ This is the first study in the Philippines that looked into SuEI and SuEB.
