Abstract
Digital technologies have become vital components in the education sector today. They paved the way for the delivery of online learning and remote education and enabled learning to occur outside the boundaries of the physical classroom. As a result, universities worldwide employ Learning Management Systems (LMS) to extend education outside traditional classrooms, create a rich online learning environment, and improve pedagogy and learning quality through the use of its tools and functions. This research employed a qualitative approach and case study to elicit rich insights from DLSU tertiary teachers about their utilization of digital technology and AnimoSpace in the online learning environment. A total of 19 tertiary teachers were interviewed, and statistical data on faculty-user access and course utilization from AnimoSpace were analyzed to determine the extent to which tertiary teachers integrate technology into the learning environment. Analysis was performed based on a theoretical lens and the level of technological integration; the tasks and roles that teachers perform in the online learning environment and the characteristics of AnimoSpace; the teacher professional development program for the teachers, ICT infrastructure, including the motivations and challenges they encountered and how it was addressed were also outlined and described. The study concludes by discussing the research implications for the Task-Technology Fit Theory (TTFT), Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition (SAMR), learning management systems, teacher development programs, and the academe, and providing direction for future scholarly investigations in the field of technology in education.
