Abstract
Sports has been a significant part of the lives of Filipinos, further amplified by the organizations and sporting events present in the country. The Philippines’ interest in sports has become a national affair, frequently meriting exceptional attention, especially during international tenures. This thesis is an examination of international sports in the Philippines from 1954 to 2005, focusing on sports nationalism in the history of the Asian Games and SEA Games in Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC). The political themes and the shifting interests of the state changed the discourse of international sports throughout this period impacting the policy of sports. A deep investigation of this thesis yielded an interesting, diverse set of national and historical merits that connects directly to sports nationalism, a sub-discipline of sports history through legislation, official reports, speeches, and articles that are important factors in understanding the role of sports in nation-building.
