Abstract
The current study focuses on the Political History of Kenkoy Komiks from the Late American Colonial Period, Commonwealth Period and the Japanese Occupation. It also provides a glimpse of the beginning of the Philippine Komik Industry, as early as 1926 by the time when komiks was seen of its potentials. The study sets about on January 11, 1929, the debut of Kenkoy Komiks, and concludes on July 8, 1946 by the time when an issue of Kenkoy Komiks alluded to America’s recognition of Philippines’ Independence. The study uses the theory of Hermeneutics that tends to highlight and give depth to the political environment Kenkoy Komiks was in during its time of publication by analyzing the different elements the komik contains from the character’s physical attributes, dialogues, personality traits and illustration. With the use of the framework, it also emphasizes on the fact that Kenkoy Komiks should not only be considered the pioneering work which opened the doors for the creation of the Philippine Komik Industry but also as the complete embodiment of the political status quo of the Philippines and a measure of the times from the Late American Colonial Period up until the Japanese Occupation.
