Abstract
Precision farming is well-founded as the future of the agricultural industry. A Remote Monitoring System (RMS) is necessary to operate such systems. However, the availability of internet access is limited to some sectional rural configuration areas that is highly applicable for farm sites. Designing RMS requires a strong communication network between the operational activities of the farm area and remote devices. The contribution of the work is twofold: 1) provides resilient internet provision through cluster-based network architecture 2) design a decentralized remote monitoring and data acquisition system with local and cloud storage. Local network packets of the smart farm setup such as environmental sensor parameters and real time monitoring cameras, rather than being stopped at the gateway, are instead clustered into IP packets, and then locked and directed from the gateway to the best WAN online port available. The basic clustering and locking procedure forms an application overlay of the local network over the Internet. Instead of varying WAN IP port, all networks will have unique and fixed access to it that allows them to query and interact with the local network directly via large transparent gateway. The system is evaluated by measuring the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) of the networks.
