Abstract
Reliance Broadcasting Unlimited, Inc. (RBU) owns and operates UFM 105.5, an FM radio station in the Clark Freeport Zone. The station, located in the Comclark Building, uses the latest fiber optic technology in its studio-to-transmitter link (STL). The transmitter facilities, situated in FM Hill, receive electrical power from Clark Electric Distribution Corporation, with backup power systems in place. Despite an authorized transmitter power of 5000 Watts, the station limits it to 3000 Watts and operates from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM to cut costs. Currently, the station is exploring the integration of a solar power system at the transmitter site to address rising operational costs. In this context, the task assigned to the trainee was to create a solar power system design aligned with the technical requirements of the transmitter site. To facilitate informed decision-making by management, this practicum report presents comprehensive designs for both grid-tied and off-grid solar power systems. These proposed designs are meticulously crafted to address the unique needs and considerations of the transmitter site. The grid-tied system design underscores seamless integration with the existing electrical grid, emphasizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Conversely, the off-grid system design is tailored for autonomy, providing independence from external power sources and ensuring reliability in remote or challenging environments. Through detailed assessments of performance metrics, economic considerations, and sustainability factors, these proposed designs serve as valuable tools for management, offering a clear and insightful outlook to guide their choice toward a solar energy solution that aligns seamlessly with the station’s goals and operational requirements.
