Abstract
Optimistic accounts of contemporary information and communication technologies (ICTs) underscore its value in facilitating our connections across a range of relationships. This paper focused on how connected presence, one of the emerging kind of presences, help the workers maintain their relationship with their loved ones, and do their job through online communication. This idea was presented through the three projects produced in my core and elective subjects: Go the Distance: A Photo Essay on Connected Presence; Ani-Mo, a mobile application design; and a Video Narrative on the Transition of Doing Collaborative Work from Face-to-Face to Online. In doing this portfolio project, I found that connected presence, as a way of maintaining relationship and coordinating with other people, matters to the lives of Filipinos who are facing the changing conditions of work in contemporary society. Given this positive account, this paper also poses a question on the challenges and limitations that the digital communication is giving since it blurs the line between the personal and professional lives.
