Abstract
Anchored on the idea that fan culture has evidently transformed through the years, Angel’s 555 aims to delve into the realities of fans and understand how their fanaticism affects, if not entirely changes, their daily lives. While Filipino fan communities are continuously growing in number in both the physical and digital world, the film aims to highlight the human side of fans and explore the factors that may contribute to their decisions, actions, and behaviors. However, reinforcing the idea that understanding does not necessarily equate to tolerance, the film also discusses the consequences that come with unmindful decisions, actions, and behaviors. With this, Angel’s 555 sheds light on the dangers of uncontrolled obsession by visualizing it through the main character—a delusional fangirl who is willing to do anything and everything to turn her fantasies about her favorite celebrity into a reality. The film also aims to show how social media has contributed to fan behaviors by means of introducing new activities, encouraging fan interactions, and sharing various kinds of content. The film further elaborates on this by realizing how the main character’s overconsumption of social media plays a huge part in feeding her delusions, so much so that she even resorts to shifting into a different reality and committing murder just to live out her fantasies with her favorite celebrity. The thriller film runs for 15 minutes and 55 seconds, and draws inspiration from related literature about fan cultures, parasocial relationships, social media influence on fan obsession, and reality shifting. The languages spoken in the film are Tagalog and English so as to establish a closer connection to the target audience which are Filipino fans and non-fans.
