Abstract
Museo is a 112-page feature-length screenplay that aims to tackle the complications of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and intergenerational trauma in the Philippine context by bridging fantasy and reality. The screenplay is also an attempt to further elicit the ways mental health affects interactions and decisions of individuals, and amplify its effects on interpersonal relationships. The screenplay tells the story of Monica Castillo, a Filipino woman in her late 20s who dreams of pursuing her passion for painting despite fighting to keep her ancestral house from falling into debt and mortgage. Pressured by her mother Irene and boyfriend Kyle, and failing to get accepted into yet another art exhibition with a large monetary prize, Monica is sent into a downward spiral leading to a suicide attempt. She wakes up in a museum with a mysterious guide to greet her and reveal that the Museo is a chance to explore the different universes of her life, with the option to choose the lifetime she wants to live in, all while her physical body stays in a coma. Getting to experience multiple alternate realities, Monica is confronted with realizations about herself, her family’s history, and what she values most in life. Ultimately, she reaches a turning point—to live in an ideal alternate universe or to return to her own time. The project was conceptualized, developed, and written by the three proponents only. The entire screenplay was written using the paid collaborative version of the screenwriting software WriterDuet. No film shoots or coordination with crew or cast were necessary for the completion of this project. PDF format.
