Abstract
The construction of an efficient road pavement in a country plays a crucial role to the resilient economy through the transport of businesses, goods, and people, but it also leads to possible negative environmental impacts and natural resources depletion. Most of the materials and methods used during construction of pavements are generally chosen by its economic aspects and structural integrity without considering these impacts. This study was motivated to investigate the current standards in constructing concrete pavements to reduce its contribution to carbon dioxide emissions through the conduct of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), a tool that is widely utilized international for assessing potential environmental impacts of a material, product or systems of product during the primary phases of its life cycle. This research compared different types of concrete pavements constructed by the government in Metro Manila to determine which type concrete and which activities on concrete road construction contributes the most potential damage. The interpretation of the results suggested that the concrete type with the most cement material imposes largest impacts while the concrete type with the fastest curing time produces the least impact from vehicle traffic.
