Abstract
There has been a huge appeal in the study of silver nanoclusters (AgNCs) due to their prospective applications in the medical and technological fields. To increase its biocompatibility and lower its toxicity, the crude extract of the sea anemone Entacmaea quadricolor was denatured using heat and β-mercaptoethanol and used as capping agents for AgNCs. Characterization of the capping was done with Fourier Transfer Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR). A bioactivity test was performed with a hemolysis assay in order to determine the effect of the denaturation processes on the crude extract-capped AgNCs and crude extract without the addition of Ag+. The FT-IR spectra showed that the crude extract-capped AgNCs had a shifted amide I band with little to no changes in its secondary structure. Furthermore, the hemolysis assay showed that the samples had a little hemolytic effect and had no significant differences even after denaturation.
