Abstract
This study explores how traditional tobacco cigarettes and electronic cigarettes may influence snoring among undergraduate students at De La Salle University - Manila. Based on previous research linking smoking to habitual snoring, it aims to determine whether one type of cigarette contributes more significantly to snoring patterns. The study uses a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional design. Using a purposive sampling technique, survey data were collected over several months from both smokers and non-smokers. The responses were analyzed through frequency distribution, chi-square tests, and the Mann-Whitney U test. Results showed a higher incidence of self-reported snoring among female tobacco smokers and male e-cigarette smokers; however, the p-value for both is above 0.05. Hence, neither smoking type showed a stronger association with the presence of snoring among the participants. Additionally, the comparison of snoring frequency between tobacco and e-cigarette users for both female and male respondents revealed a similar pattern, with e-cigarette users reporting more frequent snoring. The Mann–Whitney U test showed no significant difference in snoring frequency between the two smoking types for both female and male groups, with U = 9.00, p = 0.267 and U = 23.5, p = 0.338, respectively. This indicates that higher snoring frequency cannot confidently be attributed to either smoking type.
