Abstract
This study aims to understand if raising accountancy students’ awareness regarding the academe career through a video-based intervention would influence their intention to pursue an academe career. Specifically, this study aims to: (1) assess their preliminary degree of awareness regarding the academe career and their intention to pursue the same; (2) to identify the factor that they need to be more aware of to influence their intention to pursue an academe career; (3) to know how significant is the difference made in their awareness regarding the academe career and their intention to pursue the same. This quasi-experimental study was conducted on 276 accountancy students selected through stratified systematic sampling. Data were collected through an adapted questionnaire consisting of pretest and posttest survey questions. The collected data sets were analyzed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS software. Five out of five hypotheses showed statistical significance, where the students’ preliminary awareness and intention were not very low, and yet their awareness and intention still significantly differed after the video-based intervention. Interestingly, respondents want to prioritize learning more about the intrinsic motivations of the faculty, followed closely by the salary offerings of the academe career. The video-based intervention empowered the students to make a more informed decision in assessing their intention to pursue an academe career. Statistically wise, the video-based intervention positively influenced the participants’ intention to pursue an academe career, which ultimately provides a step closer to addressing the accountancy faculty shortage.
