Abstract
A group of researchers working under the direction of Vincent Duclert have been given access to French archives on France's military and political role in Rwanda between 1990 and 1996. We report on the uses made of the archives and the choice of themes favoured by the editors. We criticise some of the report's limitations, in particular the assertion that the genocide of the Tutsis was inexorable from 1990 onwards; we also highlight the decision not to conduct an investigation into the French military's knowledge of the RPF's war machine. We question the assertion that the report would renew our knowledge of the genocide.
