Abstract
Las enfermedades cardiovasculares han evolucionado en los últimos años en correspondencia con el desarrollo socioeconómico de los países y el aumento de factores de riesgo. Aunque la mortalidad por cardiopatía isquémica ha disminuido en países desarrollados, sigue siendo la principal causa de muerte allí y está en aumento en países en vías de desarrollo. Los factores de riesgo cardiovascular se relacionan con características personales, estilos de vida y problemas de salud que pueden causar daños en las arterias y provocar arteriosclerosis
