Abstract
إن للحركة الصوفية في غرب أفريقيا دورا حيويا في بناء المجتمعات الإنسانية، روحيا وثقافيا، قديما وحديثا. لقد كان أغلب العلماء الذين يفتتحون المدارس العربية الأهلية في أرجاء البلاد بالمنطقة معظمهم - إن لم يكن كلهم - ينتمون إلى إحدى الطرق الصوفية. لقد كانوا ولا يزالون يقضون معظم أوقاتهم الثمينة في إحياء التراث العربي الإسلامي عن طريق التأليف والدعوة والإرشاد. فالطريقة الصوفية رابطة روحية قوية، تأسست بها الدول الإسلامية في بعض دول غرب أفريقيا لمدة من الزمن، لأنهم يعتقدون أن الأوراد والأذكار التي يلتزمون بها صباحا مساء، لها تأثير كبير في استجابة دعواتهم، أو أن الولي الذي ينتسبون إليه إنما حصل على درجة الولاية من تلك الأوراد والأذكار. ومن العوامل الرئيسة التي انتشر بها الإسلام في بقاع غرب أفريقيا من يوم فجره إلى اليوم التصوف الإسلامي الذي يدعو إلى تزكية النفس بالخلق النبيل، وله إنجازات كبيرة بالمنطقة كلها.
