Abstract
Using the technique of solid-solid interaction and from solution the following series of complexes were obtained: [Th(NO3)4(Urea)2(H2O)2], [Th(NO3)4(urea)3(H2O)1], [Th(Urea)6(H2O)2](NO3)4, [Th(NO3)2(Urea)6](NO3)2, [Th(NO3)4(Urea)2(H2O)1] and [Th(Urea)8](NO3)4. In all cases urea exhibited oxygen-to-thorium bonding. A reasonable argument for octacoordination could be made for all of the complexes except [Th(NO3)4(Urea)2(H2O)1]. Finally, the deleterious effects upon the infra-red spectra are noted owing to KBr-complex interactions occurring in the solid state in KBr pellets.
