Abstract
Guidelines are supplied for the effective structuring of reports on specialist research conducted for a client. The requirements for a report's title, abstract, table of contents, body (introduction, subject under discussion, conclusions and recommendations) are discussed. Advice is given on the sensible use of appendices and illustrations (tables, figures, maps and photographs) to enhance readability and intelligibility. Eight methods of selecting a subject for each chapter and the sequence in which they should appear in order to enhance impact are discussed.
