Abstract
Els missioners anglicans que van evangelitzar als wichís del Chaco argentí van produir bones descripcions lingüístiques i un corpus abundant de traduccions bíbliques. En canvi, les seves descripcions etnogràfiques són mínimes i estan disseminades en les notes que publicaven a la revista de la seva propia Societat Missionera. Aquestes notes permeten argumentar que va existir però una etnografia missionera aplicada, que conjugada amb una lingüística semblant forjar una mena de « etnolingüística oculta » dels wichís. Després de descriure els mètodes d'aquesta etnolingüística, es presenten els seus èxits i limitacions en la comprensió de l'escenari interètnic, la religió, l'organització social i el xamanisme .
قدّم المبشرون الأنجليكانيون الذين بشّروا شعب الويتشي في منطقة تشاكو الأرجنتينية توصيفات لغوية متقنة ومدوّنة وافرة من ترجمات الكتاب المقدس. وفي المقابل، اتسمت توصيفاتهم الإثنوغرافية بالضآلة وجاءت مبعثرة في الملاحظات التي اعتادوا نشرها في مجلة جمعيتهم التبشيرية الخاصة. ومع ذلك، تتيح هذه الملاحظات المحاجة بوجود إثنوغرافيا تبشيرية تطبيقية، اقترنت بلسانيات مماثلة لترسيخ ما يشبه «لسانيات إثنية خفية» خاصة بشعب الويتشي. وبعد بيان مناهج هذه اللسانيات الإثنية، يستعرض البحث إنجازاتها وحدودها في فهم المشهد التفاعلي بين الإثنيات، والدين، والتنظيم الاجتماعي، والشامانية.
