Abstract
O trabalho tem como objeto de estudo as imagens urbanas no campo da arte pública. O estudo caracteriza como a escultura cívica de lógica monumental perdeu relevância diante das transformações sociais do Brasil contemporâneo. De modo geral, é possível dizer que a luta pelo direito à cidade redefiniu o papel das imagens urbanas. Nos dias atuais, a arte pública na cidade participa da afirmação de identidades urbanas, de poderes locais e de forças comunitárias. Nesse contexto arte e ‘favela’ se encontraram na cidade do Rio de Janeiro.
