Abstract
Un principio fundamental de la Constitución política define a Colombia como un Estado social de derecho. La poca eficacia alcanzada por el principio pone en peligro su existencia como norma jurídica vinculante para ciudadanos, legisladores y jueces. El artículo responde a objeciones que se formulan al principio en nombre de las autonomías y libertada individuales y de la eficiencia económica. Propone razones morales contextualizadas como justificación del compromiso estatal con los mínimos vitales contenidos en materia de derechos sociales, económicos y culturales.
