Abstract
El trabajo propone un análisis crítico de la teoría del populismo económico y del ciclo (histórico) de la economía populista, de Dornbush y Edwards; busca mostrar la consistencia de esas elaboraciones teóricas, indagar por su capacidad explicativa de la historia de América Latina; desvelar sus límites, y sobre todo sus usos (históricos). Con base en el examen de la política económica del populismo histórico, se formulan elementos para la crítica del paradigma y se muestra que se está en presencia de una construcción ideológica, cuyo propósito consiste en descalificar proyectos políticos que desatiendan la impronta de las políticas neoliberales.
