Abstract

O presente trabalho parte de dados empíricos colhidos em pesquisa etnográfica realizada no estado do Rio de Janeiro entre 2005 e 2007 e propõe uma abordagem sociológica das motivações que determinam o ingresso de jovens na atividade de pichação de muros e das condições para sua permanência na prática. Para tanto, lança mão da proposição do conceito de sociabilidade delinquente, uma modalidade inserção social e da construção de laços e na reputação social baseada justamente nas práticas de delinquência. O texto oferece também uma delimitação de uma pichação que possa ser caracterizada como tipicamente carioca em relação a outras formas gráficas e plásticas.

 

Deviance and Aesthetization of Violence: A Socio-Anthropological Approach to Wall Tagging in Rio de Janeiro draws on empirical data gathered through ethnographic research conducted in Rio de Janeiro state between 2005 and 2007 and proposes a sociological approach toward the motives that draw youths into
the culture of tagging walls and the conditions for their continuing the practice. It therefore proposes the concept of delinquent sociability, a mode of social insertion and of building ties and social reputation based precisely on delinquent practices. The text also offers an outline of a kind of tagging that could be described as typical of Rio de Janeiro in relation to other graphic and plastic forms.
