Abstract
Lateral adjustments of Timiș river channel between 1965-2015. Until now, most of the studies regarding Timiș river are hydrological and engineering a pproaches for the fl ood risk or chemical water composition. This paper wants to be a geomorphological approach of the Timiș river channel, for a 50 years temporal evolution period. The aim of this paper is to assess and analyze the major planform channel adjustments of Timiș river between Buchin and Lugojel. The sector is located in a transition area, on the middle course, from the Timiș-Cerna Corridor, to Sinersigului and Lugojului Plain. The study area contain the most meandering sector of all the Timiș river course, both from Romania and the Republic of Serbia. The methodology we used for this present paper is composed of G.I.S techniques and also, fi eldwork. Furthermore, we used two specifi c aspects for the lateral channel adjustments analysis: the meandering average rate and the lateral morphometric values on a cross section. By the integrated analysis of these two aspects, we could identify and interpret the main lateral channel adjustments of Timiș river. The fi nal results helped us to asses the late 50 years planform morphodynamics of the river. Also, the G.I.S. techniques combined with the mathematical modelling proved to be a very effi cient tools in river planform adjustments assessment.
