Abstract
O presente artigo tem como objetivo promover reflexões a respeito das diferentes configurações assumidas pelo Estado no contexto do capitalismo e das respostas dadas no enfrentamento da questão social. Nele são abordados o Estado Liberal, a crise de 1929, o Estado de Bem-Estar Social, a ofensiva neoliberal a partir dos anos de 1970, além de algumas considerações a respeito da intervenção do Estado na primeira grande crise financeira do século XXI. Inicialmente as reflexões são realizadas em relação aos países do capitalismo central e, em seguida, em relação ao contexto brasileiro.
