Abstract
Os termos, empregados pelo historiador e pelo sociólogo, tem os seus altos e baixos. O termo "burguês" era, em certa época, a suma expressão de tudo o que é prudente e moderado, honrado e leal e, ao mesmo tempo, empreendedor e progressista; atualmente está completamente desacreditado. Acadêmicos, românticos, artistas e revolucionários têm concorrido para difamar ce cochon qui désire mourir de vieileose (Léon Bloy). Coitado do burguês! É difícil não escrever uma sátira sobre ele. Tudo quanto é mesquinho e vulgar, interesseiro e reacionário, covarde e medíocre é insinuado por esta palavra injuriosa, cheia de carga explosiva como poucas outras. Até os próprios burgueses falam com certo desprezo do "burguês".
