Abstract
Os termos, empregados pelo historiador e pelo sociólogo, tem os seus altos e baixos. O termo "burguês" era, em certa época, a suma expressão de tudo o que é prudente e moderado, honrado e leal e, ao mesmo tempo, empreendedor e progressista; atualmente está completamente desacreditado. Acadêmicos, românticos, artistas e revolucionários têm concorrido para difamar ce cochon qui désire mourir de vieileose (Léon Bloy). Coitado do burguês! É difícil não escrever uma sátira sobre ele. Tudo quanto é mesquinho e vulgar, interesseiro e reacionário, covarde e medíocre é insinuado por esta palavra injuriosa, cheia de carga explosiva como poucas outras. Até os próprios burgueses falam com certo desprezo do "burguês".
إن للمصطلحات التي يوظفها المؤرخ وعالم الاجتماع فترات صعود وهبوط؛ فقد كان مصطلح «البرجوازي»، في حقبة ما، التعبير الأسمى عن كل ما هو حصيف ومعتدل، شريف ومخلص، وفي الوقت ذاته مقدام وتقدمي؛ أما في الوقت الحاضر، فقد انحدرت قيمته تماماً وفقد كل اعتبار. وقد تضافر الأكاديميون والرومانسيون والفنانون والثوريون لتشويه سمعة *ce cochon qui désire mourir de vieileose* (ليون بلوا). فيا لبؤس البرجوازي! إذ يصعب ألا يكتب المرء عنه نصاً ساخراً. فكل ما هو دنيء ومبتذل، ونفعي ورجعي، وجبان ومبتذل، تومئ إليه هذه اللفظة المهينة والمشحونة بحمولة متفجرة قلّ نظيرها. حتى إن البرجوازيين أنفسهم باتوا يتحدثون بنوع من الازدراء عن «البرجوازي».
