Abstract
A partir da crítica ao conceito de força de Descartes e do advento do cálculo, ajuízoque seja possível associar a origem do conceito moderno de simetria a Leibniz, ou melhor, aoleibnizianismo. No entanto, diferentemente do matemático Hermann Weyl que pleiteia essagênese ao princípio da identidade dos indiscerníveis, argumento que o conceito de harmonia,sustentado pelo princípio da harmonia preestabelecida seja, de fato, o princípio inaugurador desimetria atual, e, em particular, do conceito de simetria de translação, também conhecido comosimetria de espaço.
