Abstract
Entre 1910 e 1920, a intelectualidade brasileira experimentou uma fase de efervescente reafirmação das virtudes cívicas. Dentre as lições do catecismo patriótico sobressaía-se o estudo da história pátria. O contexto nacionalista estimularia o IHGB a promover o I Congresso de História Nacional, em setembro de 1914. O artigo aborda esta iniciativa pioneira, que agregou letrados e políticos atuantes, com o objetivo de sistematizar o saber histórico disponível, conferindo-lhe unidade e coerência.
