Abstract
This research aimed to examine what is an environmentally responsible company and what motivates this company, according to the perception of professors of Administration. In order to achieve this goal, 69 interviews were collected, which were analyzed by using the technical devices of the Discourse of the Collective Subject (DCS), in a qualitative and quantitative approach. The central ideas identified allows us to conclude that, for professors of Administration, an environmentally responsible company is the one that does not harm the environment and is concerned about the environmental impacts, acts beyond its legal obligations and has adequate internal processes. Its motivations for investing in sustainable actions refer to an improvement of the corporate image in the market, or to the pressure imposed by the consumer and society, besides the environmental awareness of the company or just to meet the obligations imposed by legislation.
