Abstract
Leitura do capítulo XII, “Um episódio de 1814”, de Memórias póstumas de Brás Cubas. Procura-se mostrar como a combinação de duas fontes veladas - Stendhal, de Le rouge et le noir, e Manuel Antônio de Almeida, de Memórias de um sargento de Milícias - apontam para a instabilidade ideológica do texto. Ele oscila entre o tom nobre, que descreve a repercussão na capital da ex-colônia da queda de Napoleão, e o tom bandalho, que se diverte com a queda de Dona Eusébia no quintal.
