Abstract
This article, the first part of a broader research project, attempts to analyze the evolution of the status of foreign language teaching and the subsequent methodology in Romania under the communist regime, especially under the totalitarian rule of Ceausescu. The languages taken into account are French, English, German, Italian and Spanish, among which the first two are given more importance in the documents used in this research: scientific journals, specialised reviews.
