Abstract
Wanneer ons hier oor die ekumeniese roeping van die Kerk handel, dan kom veral twee eienskappe van die Kerk in gedrang nl. die algemeenheid of kalolisiteit en die eenheid van die Kerk. Dit is einllik 'n nuwe betekenis wat aan die begrip ekumene gegee is in die latere tyd omdat die begrip terminologies alleen 'n geografiese betekenis het. Die begrip ekumene word egter gebruik juis omdat daarmee vandag ook die verskeurdheid van die Kerk in rekening gebring word wat eintlik nie sou plaasvind as die geografiese betekenis van die begrip alleen bedoel word nie.
