A questão do processo de configuração e modernização do Estado e da sociedade no Brasil é tema recorrente no pensamento social brasileiro. Essa questão é abordada aqui a partir da releitura que Jessé Souza faz do chamado “dilema brasileiro” e da “sociologia da inautenticidade” que interpreta esse dilema. São apontadas as contribuições e lacunas no trabalho desse autor, levando a conclusão de que o dilema da modernização brasileira persiste.
